Overview
A one-week EXPERT level freeriding and carving camp, based out of the vibing CAMP3 Clubhouse in Madarao Mountain Resort, Japan. This camp's focus is simple; KEEP UP WITH RICHIE!
If you’re an experienced snowboarder, chances are you already know Richie Johnston’s riding style — fast, committed and technical, across all kinds of freeride and carving terrain. This camp is your chance to push your limits, put the pedal to the metal, quiet the mental chatter, and ride at full throttle alongside one of New Zealand’s most respected snowboard coaches (bonus points if you overtake him).
You'll ride a variety of mountains during this camp, depending on where the snow is best. Think zipper line bumps in Myoko, switch trees in Tangram, high-performance carving in gullies of Madarao and Nozawa, and ultra-fast powder laps through Arai’s legendary terrain.
This camp is designed for riders who want to access flow state performance. Many strong riders struggle with overthinking, hesitation, or holding back when terrain gets fast and technical. CAMP3’s expert-level coaching mantra separates the week into two distinct modes: Skills mode and send mode.
Skills mode focuses on refining and adjusting your high-level riding technique; edge control, line choice, body positioning, terrain management, and movement efficiency. Send mode is where you switch off the internal noise, trust your training, and learn to ride instinctively using mental triggers that help unlock flow state riding in demanding terrain.
The camp includes five days of coaching with Richie, at five hours per day. This camp also includes seven nights of accommodation at the vibing CAMP3 Clubhouse Madarao, five days of lift passes for all the mountains you ride, daily breakfast and three dinners in the clubhouse, 4WD transport to the local resorts each day and arrival/departure transfers to and from the local train station. The start and end dates specified above are the ARRIVAL and DEPARTURE dates (i.e. not on snow).
All camps need a minimum of three people per group to run, with a maximum six per group. Check our FAQs for more details on CAMP3.
