Overview
This is a charter heli snowboarding day with Southern Lake Heliski, somewhere deep in the mountains around Wanaka.We will have the heli to ourselves, with 2 or 3 small groups riding amazing backcountry terrain. Each group will have their own highly qualified guide. We will get between 8 and 10 runs in the most epic freeride terrain, far away from any resort. This is a once in a lifetime day!
When heli-snowboarding, chartering a private helicopter (as opposed to the standard package) is by far the best way to do it, as you get to ride the best terrain and get way more laps. However, it does require a degree of flexibility and patience on the day, as the location will likely change to ensure the best possible conditions.
This is a one day event. CAMP3 has reserved Sunday 16th August, with a weather day the following Sunday 23rd August. We will assess the conditions on the evening of the 15th, and decide which day to use. You will need to be available for BOTH Sundays, as it could run on either day.
If neither day is available, or the snow conditions are poor, the trip will be postponed or cancelled and individuals will be refunded. We MUST have a minimum of 8 people for this to run.
The cost below includes a contribution to EKOS carbon management programme. As you know, helicopters have a substantial impact on the environment in the amount of carbon emissions they create. So we've factored that into our trip and will be donating to one of Ekos' unique projects as part of the cost.
Ability Levels
This event is aimed at advanced and expert level riders. Read about our five-stage ability level here. For this specific event, we ask that all members have ridden with CAMP3 before or can be approved by a coach. This ensures that everyone is of advanced riding ability at the minimum.

- Heli Time & Guiding
- 2hrs of flight time (3hrs if we have a third group), with 4 or 5 people per group, and highly certified guides willing to explore.
- Lunch
- A tasty lunch (up high, deep in the mountains) is provided by Southern Lakes Heli as part of the trip.
Transport
Transport will need to be worked out closer to the time, once we know the numbers. Those with vehicles may be asked to drive a few other members of the trip. One group will depart from the Wanaka Airport, the others will have to drive to a staging area closer to the zone (this is likely to be between 30-60min drive away, but could be more).Bookings
