Half Dutch, half British - raised in a military family, Rob Lane grew up moving around before eventually calling Scotland home. He started snowboarding at Cairngorm Snowboard Club on the weekends from the age of 9. It was there that snowboarding first became an obsession.

These days, he’s pretty much living out of a snowboard bag, chasing winters around the world and coaching everywhere from Europe to Asia to New Zealand — with the odd trip back to Scotland or the Netherlands to see family, mates, and his girlfriend.

Rob’s been instructing since 2011 and holds his BASI Level 4, as well as working as a BASI Trainer & Examiner delivering Level 1, 2, 3 and 4 courses for BASI. He’s worked as an instructor trainer in a variety of systems for a variety of training courses, including CASI and SBINZ, and coached everyone from first-timers to youth high-performance athletes — so whatever level you’re at, he’s got you covered.

His riding background is freestyle and park, with time spent in places like coaching as a freestyle coach also in LAAX and Absolut Park, but he’s all about riding the whole mountain. He’s competed in a bit of everything — freestyle, boardercross, freeride, banked slalom — and even made finals at the famous Jib King competition at Absolut Park on the stair case (which was as spicy as it sounds). His go-to trick is a solid method and his dream trip is a multi-day splitboard adventure somewhere remote like the Himalayas.

As a coach, Rob’s technical and detail-focused, but keeps things practical and easy to understand. Expect clear breakdowns, good vibes, and plenty of progress along the way. His approach: “It’s normal to feel nervous — whether you’re starting out or pushing into something new. We’ll break it down step by step, build confidence properly, and progress at a pace that works for you.”

He’s usually first on the lift and last off the hill — fuelled by coffee, a proper warm-up, and the belief that one more lap is always worth it. Rob’s all about riding with good people who are keen to improve — especially if there’s a few park laps involved.
