Overview
Here it is, a first of it's kind!
This Splitboard Adventure camp is the most unique backcountry snowboard offering you'll find anywhere in NZ. It is carefully designed for newer splitboarders to help develop your touring skills, while providing two unique overnight adventures.
This camp is broken up into three parts, over the duration of the two weeks:
- Part 1 - Build the skills... This begins in the Hollywood Bowl area at Treble Cone, where we spend two days developing your splitboard techniques; transitions, traversing, kick turns etc etc. These first two days are flexible in a four day window to cater for conditions, ensuring we have a stable snow pack and reasonable weather.
- Part 2 - An Easy Overnighter...
Next, we spend a night away in a large hut in the Pisa Range, which we splitboard in and out from (about 1hr each way). The daytime is spent self-guiding in low angle terrain, close to the hut, riding short easy pitches - ideal to practice the skills you have learned previously, at your own pace. The hut is basic but warm with a log burner, bunk beds and mattresses, kitchen utensils and a long drop toilet. Dinner and breakfast is supplied by the CAMP3 team. Sleeping bags can be arranged to rent. - Part 3 - Heli-Access Camping Trip... The camp culminates in a heli-accessed, overnight mission at either Black Peak or End Peak, facilitated by Aspiring Guides. This guided adventure begins with a theory day at the Aspiring Guides headquarters in Wānaka, before flying by helicopter into the mountains. We spend two days splitboarding around unique and challenging backcountry terrain, whilst camping overnight in North Face dome tents. Overnight camping equipment is provided by Aspiring Guides, along with dinner and breakfast.
This camp needs 8 people to run. It cannot be run with less, due to the cost and capacity of the helicopters. To join this camp, you need to have completed an avalanche awareness course previously (e.g. ASC1 or AST1). It is also possible to arrange this for you in Wanaka, during the week or so prior the camp.
